This blog has been set up to document the experiences of a trip by motorcycle across Asia from Japan through Siberia, Mongolia, The "Stans"and western Russia to Europe during the summer of 2010. Five of us will arrive in Japan on the fourth of May 2010 with our motorcycles to begin. I of course am Canadian and the other 4 are from Australia, one of whom is an expat Canadian who has married and lived in Australia many years. More on them later when I post from Japan.
One of the first of several challenges for this trip was the crating and shipping of the motorcycle to Tokyo. Mine is to be shipped by sea.
The photos above are of the crating.Special thanks to Frank Bajich and Al Caillet, whose help made this easy.
On the left, myself with brother Dennis, right, on the "Icefields Highway", south of Jasper Alberta.
Next post....Tokyo!! with my fellow viajeros.
Hi there Frank and fellow travelers ... this is a very classy piece of communication and I for one am delighted that someone is doing it. Over the next few months, I look forward to following your adventures ... so travel well, safely and happily.

Hi There. May will be the best time for riding around in Japan (except the foliage season), but expect mad traffic jam on the first a few days since many Japanese people take days off for road trips in the first week. Plus May is a beginning of the festival season, so you might be able to see them (example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanja_Matsuri) on your way, especially on weekends, but again that means the local streets will be jammed up. Camping out in Japan is very safe, and cyclists sometimes pitch their tents in roadside stations' parking lots (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roadside_Station). Cheap lodging and good food often don't come together (as in other countries), but when you feel like cooking on your own and want a roof above, you can stay at Youth Hostels (http://www.jyh.or.jp/english/index.html). Have fun fellas.
